Maker's comments | Historians tell that at the end of the 19th century, a Swiss traveler, Carl August Goldsselman was walking along the Guayas river when he saw some cargo handlers taking down cocoa bags, he asked them where this product came from, they answered "de arriba" (from up the river). They really meant they were coming down over the flowings of the Guayas river from cities like Baba or Vinces in the Province of Los Rios to the port of Guayaquil in order to be shipped abroad. Since then, the term Arriba is synonymous of the best ecuadorian cocoa. From the whole world cocoa production less than 5% is considered "fine" or "Flavour". Ecuador has been blessed in being the leader producing country of unique, outstanding cocoa due to its floral aroma resulting from the given conditions such as soil, location, sunshines, climate and care of the farmer who has preserved the cocoa culture during hundreds of years. |

Tasting Experience | This bar is sold in an artisanal looking textile bag to increase its natural appeal. Opening the wrapper frees a fruity chocolatey aroma. It melts nicely in the mouth delivering more fruity flavours in a soft texture. The after taste remains fruity but could be stronger. The overall feeling is of quality and uniqueness. A great Arriba chocolate bar. |
