Maker's comments Part of the 230 hectares Akesson family estate, the plantation is located in the Sambirano Valley, in the North-West of Madagascar. Since 1920 we have produced world famous aromatic cocoa and pepper. In fact, our specially selected pepper vines grow on the shade trees protecting the cocoa trees from the sun. We united these two exquisite products to make this fine chocolate. In this subtle combination, the fruity-sweet tartness of the cocoa and the pleasant flavour that evoke red berries collide with the warm notes of pine kernel and fresh hints of green fruits that are so characteristic of Madagascar black pepper.

Tasting Experience This bar made with beans and black pepper coming from Akesson's single origin plantation along the Sambirano river in Northern Madagascar is special. When opening the signature square wrapper, the strong flavor of the black pepper is what hits your nose first. Then the chocolaty aroma of the trinatarios comes-up. The bar breaks nicely and melts pleasantly while delivering more cacao notes and some roasted nuts sensations. At the second stage, the pepper kicks-in and becomes the main aroma. The texture is pleasantly soft. The after taste is overtaken by the black pepper, overshadowing much of the cacao sensation. Overall, this is a very strong experience that will please black pepper lovers.
